From 2005 onwards, with the support of the European Union, a gradual transformation of regional agencies for development of SMEE into the regional development agencies has begun. National Agency for Regional Development accredits the agencies for performing the activities of development and improvement of regional development for a period of two years, with the possibility of renewal.

The Republic network of professional support for encouraging the development of small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurship is created in order to contribute to establishment of better conditions for the development of SMEE in Serbia, as well as to strengthening of the very network members. Republic Network was established in May 2003 on the initiative of the Republic Agency for development of SMEE with the determination to have all regional agencies/centers connected and a single access to clients provided. Today, the Republic Network is coordinated by National Agency for Regional Development.
